World record for most shots in a tiebreaker
The world record for most shots taken in a tiebreaker is in a domestic soccer match in Israel. Shimson Tel Aviv faced SC Dimona last May 21 in a play-off match to reach the semi-finals of the country's third tier of football.
At the end of the extra time, the two teams were tied at 2-2, so the match was decided on a tiebreaker. Both teams took a total of 56 shots in the tiebreaker of this match held in Dimona city. Both teams took 28 shots each. It became a world record in a tiebreaker.
In the end, Dimona won the tiebreaker 23-22. The tiebreaker shootout lasted about 45 minutes. The 56th shot was taken by Shimson goalkeeper Avihay Dahan. Dimona goalkeeper Gal Navon blocked it.
Earlier, the world record for most shots in a tiebreaker was 54 shots. Both teams took 27 shots. In March 2022, Washington beat Bedlington in a tiebreaker 25–24 in the first round of the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup in England.
