Argentina goalkeeper banned for 11 matches

Argentina goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán has been banned for 11 matches by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) for 'inappropriate behaviour'. He is accused of throwing laser lights into the eyes of football players including the opposing goalkeeper from the dressing room during the match.

Last Sunday, Tigres UANL and Monterrey met in Mexico's top competition, Liga MX. Where Argentinian goalkeeper Gusman of Tigres Club could not play due to injury. However, some videos of him shooting laser lights on the field from the dressing room spread on social media. FMF has announced a big penalty against him after investigation.

In the end, the match between the two teams was tied 3-3. But later discussions began about using lasers in Gusman. He pointed a laser at Monterey goalkeeper Esteban Andrada, and the Tigres goalkeeper apologized after being criticized for it.

(Thursday) In a statement FMF said, the Disciplinary Committee has banned Tigres Club's Nahuel Ignacio Guzmán for 11 matches for inappropriate behavior during the match. His conduct violated Federation policy. Later, Tigres Club also announced that Gusman will be punished according to their internal policy.

Meanwhile, Monterrey footballer Andrada has also been punished. Guzmán was fined by the Mexican Football Federation for making comments about him being gay on social media.

It should be noted that the banned Gusman is still rehabilitating a knee injury, due to which he could not play again after March 9. His team has just two games left in the ongoing regular season, but the 38-year-old goalkeeper will be banned from tournaments beyond 2024. Earlier, during a penalty shootout, Gusman suddenly pulled out a ribbon from his mouth to distract the opposing footballer. He came to the discussion for the first time after the incident in the Leagues Cup last August.
