Martinez was suspended before the semi-finals
Emiliano Martinez was the hero of Aston Villa's victory in the second leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final against Lille. The Argentinian played an important role in the team's victory by saving two penalties in the tiebreaker match.
Aston Villa, whose excellent performance secured the ticket to the semi-finals, is not getting him in the important matches. Martinez will not be able to play in the first leg match against Greek club Olympiakos on May 2.
Argentina's World Cup winning goalkeeper has been banned by UEFA for one match. Because, he has seen three yellow cards in the two legs of the conference league quarter-finals.
Martinez was yellow carded twice in the second leg of the quarter-finals. The referee gave him a yellow card for the first time in the 39th minute of the match. After that, when the match went to the tri-breaker, Martinez got a yellow card there as well.
In total, Martinez was shown two yellow cards in the match, but the referee did not show a red card. Because according to UEFA rules, a yellow card in regular time of a match does not add up to a yellow card in tiebreaker time. But again it adds up to overall card viewing. So even if you don't get a red card, you are rightly banned.
Martinez will be able to play in the second leg of the semi-final if he is unable to play in the first leg.
