India started the World Cup with an easy win
The bowlers showed India the way to victory. After Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya's cannons, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant's bats gave them an easy win against Ireland. Bumrah took 2 wickets for just 6 runs in 3 overs in a big win by 8 wickets.
(June 5) Ireland set India a target of just 97 runs. Team India got the win in just 12.2 overs.
Rumors were that Virat Kohli could open for India along with Rohit. The discussion was created due to Kohli's success playing as an opener in the IPL and not playing Yaswasi Jaiswal in this position against Bangladesh. Kohli made it true in the opening match against the Irish. However, he could not drag the success of IPL to international cricket, he got out for only 1 run that day.
Rohit chases a small target and completes his half-century. He left the field as a retired heart after scoring 52 runs off 37 balls. Suryakumar Yadav departs close to victory. He scored 2 runs. In the end Pant remained unbeaten and scored 36 runs off 26 balls.
Batting early on Nassau's strange pitch, Ireland were helpless against India's strong bowling line-up. Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh bowled Paul Sterling's team all out for just 96 runs.
After losing the toss, Ireland could not stand in front of the Indian bowlers. The Indian pacers have shown one-sided power from the beginning. Arshdeep Singh started it. In the third over of the innings, Irish captain Paul Stirling gave up the catch while hitting the pacer's ball. In the same over, the Irish lost their second wicket for 9 runs.
Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector added 19 runs for the third wicket. The pair broke when Tucker bowled Pandya. Tector returned in the next over. He returned as a top edge while playing Bumrah's bouncer. Curtis Kampfer was trying to play aggressive cricket against the type of pitch. However, Pandya did not allow him to be permanent either. Campher was dismissed for 12 runs in the ninth over.
Irish batsmen could not show responsibility even though wickets fell. George Dockrell and Mark Adair joined the wicket procession with dismissals in the 10th and 11th overs. Akshar Patel was caught by Barry McCarthy in the twelfth over. Josh Little and Gareth Delaney brought some capital to Ireland after losing 8 wickets for 50 runs. Little scored 14 runs off 13 balls. 26 runs from 14 balls came from Delaney's bat. Hitting 2 sixes and 2 fours, this set batter was finally run out. And that ended the Irish innings.
Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets for 27 runs after bowling 4 overs for India. Bumrah took 2 wickets with just 6 runs in 3 overs. Arshdeep also got 2 wickets. Besides, Mohammad Siraj and Akshar Patel got one wicket each.
