Uruguay's big win with Liverpool star hat-trick
Uruguay is the most successful team in the Copa America. La Celestera jointly owns the maximum 15 titles with Argentina. However, they have not won the title of this tournament after 2011. However, the team that gave Argentina the taste of defeat in the World Cup qualifiers is considered as one of the favorites of this season. The team has stars like Fede Valverde, Darwin Nunez. Before the start of the tournament, however, Uruguay showed a sample of strength. La Celestera blew away Mexico in a friendly match.
Uruguay beat Mexico 4-1 at Mile High Stadium in the United States on Thursday (June 6). Liverpool's star striker Darwin Nunez scored a hat-trick on the day of the team's big win. Facundo Pelestri scored the rest of the goals.
After the era of Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani, a new era has begun in Uruguayan football. The new generation of Valverde, Nunez, Ugarte are chasing title dreams of the one-time superpowers. In this year's Copa America, along with Argentina and Brazil, the name of Uruguay is also on the list of favorites. Marcelo Bielsa's team is also making its mark on the field.
Fede Valverde, who recently won the Champions League title for Real Madrid, and Ronald Araujo, Barcelona's defensive stalwart, were not in the squad for the friendly against Mexico. However, La Celeste did not have to gain momentum to win. Uruguay were more accurate in taking advantage of Mexico's possession of the ball.
Both teams took an equal 8 shots, while Uruguay managed 4 shots on target, while Mexico had 3 shots on target.
Uruguay went ahead with Nunez's goal in the seventh minute of the match. Facundo Pelestri, on loan from Manchester United to Granada, doubled the lead in the 26th minute.
The rest of the match was the Nunez Show. The Liverpool star scored the second goal in the 44th minute. Then completed the hat trick in 49 minutes in the second half. After that, Uruguay left the field with this margin as no other team could score.
