Finally Mbappe at Real
The announcement, which has been waiting since 2017, came to fruition in June 2024. Ending all the waiting, the Spanish club officially announced the deal in the early hours of Tuesday. Real Madrid's official statement said, "Real Madrid has signed a contract with this player for the next five seasons." In a sense, it can be said that Mbappe's childhood dream has come true.
Kylian Mbappe, the prodigy of France football or a teenager with special qualities, told his then club Monaco in 2017 that he wanted to go to Real Madrid, not PSG. Real, the best club in the history of football, also kept an eye on this teenager. However, Real president Florentino Perez was in favor of a little patience.
Mbappe went to PSG for 180 million euros. Every season since then, the rumor mill has only grown. Many times the Mbappe to Real Madrid deal was held up as a formality. Kishore Mbappe has since become one of the best stars in the world.
PSG did not want to release this Mbappe. At least not without hefty transfer fees. The price was raised to 200 million euros. But Florentino Perez is a seasoned businessman. He waited. Be patient. In the end, Perez's wait and Mbappe's longing came true.
Mbappe, 25, verbally agreed with the club in February this year to join Real. Then last month, the French star said that he will leave PSG at the end of the season. After winning their 15th title in the Champions League on Saturday night of this week, Real officially announced the news of the agreement with Mbappe.
Mbappe has won the Ligue 1 title 6 times for PSG. He also played for PSG in the Champions League final in 2020. But had to lose to Bayern Munich. He became the first footballer since Geoff Hurst in 1966 to score a hat-trick in the World Cup final. He is the first teenager since Pele in 1958 to score in a World Cup final.
French President Emmanuel Macron once came forward in an effort to retain Mbappe. When the Mbappe to Real deal was almost completed in June 2022, Mbappe ended up staying in France for two more years at the request of the French president.
