Who will win India or South Africa?
South African captain Aiden Markram and India's Rohit Sharma in a photo session with the trophy World Cup, cricket's mega tournament. It begins and ends with the beating of drums, but this time there was no traditional arrangement like 'Captain's Meet' before the start of the event.
The ICC has not said a word on whether or not the captains of the two teams will have a photo session with the trophy before the final, or where they will do it. The curtain of this year's T20 World Cup, which started on June 1, is coming down today.
It's like coming and going quietly.
T20 is all about glitz, two teams battling under floodlights and fireworks in the night sky. But the final match between India and South Africa will be in daylight. That too at 10:30 AM local time in Barbados.
Catching 'prime time' on TV in the Indian subcontinent may have been one of the reasons for holding the final in the morning on this remote Caribbean island.
Although there is a question about the organization, its impact on the field fight should not be much. Both teams will compete on the same stage.
Who will raise the trophy? India, or South Africa? That is the question now. With India, the first World Twenty20 champions in 2007, a chance to reclaim the trophy, the Proteas will be looking to reach their first ever World Cup title in all editions. Before this final, India captain Rohit Sharma said, 'We have to remain calm as a team. A cool head is the only way to make the right decisions.' Proteas captain Aiden Markram commented, 'We feel and believe that we can compete with any team in the world, we can win the title.
After defeating England in the second semi-final, Rohit returned to the dressing room and cried. Reaching the final is not new to him. It hasn't been a year since India reached the ODI World Cup final at home. But this year's final is a little exception for him. India, who lost to England in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, now lost to them in the final.
This final is as emotional for Rohit as it is supposed to be more for the Markram! After failing seven times, the Proteas are finally in the final of a major ICC tournament. Just as the Rohite came here by making breakfast for the English, similarly, South Africa blew away Afghanistan like straw in the title fight.
Before this match, Indian coach Rahul Dravid said, 'There is no way to win the final without playing good cricket. We have been playing attacking cricket since the beginning. This is how I want to play in the final one more time. At Kensington Oval, however, the statistics are in favor of the batters. A total of eight matches (one abandoned) have been played in this tournament, almost all of which have seen runs on the scoreboard. In the match that India played against Afghanistan, batting first scored 181 runs. Like the batsmen, spinners also benefit in Barbados. All in all, former Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar has put India ahead, 'South Africa is doing very well in the tournament. It will be very difficult for India to beat the Proteas. A lot depends on how the final wicket will be on him. But I will put India ahead.
Meanwhile, Protea spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has warned that he does not want to stop here after reaching the final in eight attempts, 'When we came to play the World Cup, we did not just come to the final. Like other teams, we are here to win the final. Nothing is too much for us.' Ricky Ponting, Australia's two-time World Cup winning captain, gave South Africa what to do on the final stage, 'South Africa are undefeated so far. They don't need any changes. The players just have to wake up and give their best. Must play as a team. If you can do that, it will be difficult for the opponent.
