Venezuela had already booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Copa America. But whether they would be group champions or runners-up, that remained to be seen. Not the runner-up, but the group champion, Venezuela entered the knockout stage, along with Ecuador. Lionel Messi's Argentina will play the quarter final against this Ecuador.
Ecuador had a chance to win Group B if they won against Mexico, the same was true for Mexico. Because there were 3 points next to the names of the two teams. Venezuela had 6 points. But Venezuela did not give that chance. They beat Jamaica 3-0 to become group champions. Meanwhile, the Mexico-Ecuador match was a goalless draw. Despite equal points with Ecuador, Mexico was eliminated due to the goal difference.
Ecuador will face Argentina on July 5 in the quarter finals. The match will be held at NRG Stadium in Texas. Lionel Messi's team made it to the knockout stages as champions of Group A. They won all the 3 matches.
Venezuela's opponent in the knockout is Canada. The match will be held on July 6.
