The Netherlands star was knocked out before the start of the Euro
The European football continental tournament Euro 2024 starts in 4 days after turning the pages of the calendar. This year's Euro will be held in 10 German cities. All participating countries are located in Germany. Countries are preparing their final preparations with friendly matches. The Dutch have completed their preparations by beating Iceland 4-0 in their last friendly match.
However, before the start of the Euro journey of the Netherlands, they had to digest the bad news. Midfielder Frankie De Jong was injured before the start of the season. The Barcelona midfielder will not be able to play the upcoming Euros due to an ankle injury.
An ankle injury has taken a toll on De Jong. However, despite the injury, he got a place in the Euro team. De Jong was expected to recover by the start of the Euros. However, yesterday Monday (June 10), Barcelona's doctor said that de Jong is unlikely to recover before the Euros.
De Jong, however, practiced with the team before taking the field against Iceland. However, he was not dropped in the match. His team was waiting to be fully fit. After the match, Dutch coach Ronald Koeman confirmed Young's elimination from the Euro. The Dutch coach commented, 'The tests showed that he still can't do the things he should be able to do. Every time he practices, he has problems with his ankle. It can be concluded that he will not be 100% fit in the next three weeks.
Meanwhile, de Jong expressed his disappointment at being knocked out of the Euros, "I am depressed and disappointed not to be in the European Championship." We have done everything we can in recent weeks. Unfortunately my ankle needs more time.'
Despite being sidelined by injury, De Jong left a message to the team saying, 'To represent the country at the final stage of a tournament, wearing the orange jersey, singing the national anthem and feeling the support of the whole country is a dream and the highest honour. But now, I will be cheering for the team from the sidelines like all the Orange Army. Go ahead boys.'
