Big stars have not been able to shine yet
Cristiano Ronaldo has played five World Cups so far. Before this year, he represented Portugal in five European championships. Ronaldo had the rare feat of scoring in every group stage of the ten major stages. Finally, the five-time Ballon d'Or star did not see a goal in the group stage of any major tournament.
He did not score a goal in the first three matches of the ongoing Euro. However, if he gets a goal in the knock out, Ronaldo will create a new feat, becoming the oldest player to score in the Euros and make his name in the record books. Not only Ronaldo, but several other stars who have conquered club football have not had a good start to this year's Euros. Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski, Romelu Lukaku are not in the best form.
Mbappe suffered a big blow in the first match of France. He could not play in the Netherlands match due to a broken nose in the Austria match. The French have yet to get the best of Mbappe despite scoring a penalty in the Poland match with a protective mask on his nose. It remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old forward can shine in the knockout stages.
Mbappe's teammate Antoine Griezmann also disappointed. In the absence of Mbappe, he could not capitalize on several opportunities against the Netherlands.
Polish forward Robert Lewandowski did not play against the Netherlands due to injury. He could not make an impact even though he entered the field in the loss to Austria. Losing two matches in a row confirmed his team's exit.
In the penalty shootout against France, it was only a consolation goal.
Jude Bellingham has had a dream season at Real Madrid. Harry Kane set a new goalscoring record despite Bayern Munich failing to win the title. Both scored in the opening match against Serbia but failed to perform at a high level in the next two matches. The English also did not see victory. However, they are playing in the knock out as the best in the group with five points.
Romelu Lukaku, the top goalscorer in Belgian history, couldn't find the back of the net either. It can be said that he did not get a goal despite having the most opportunities. Although he sent the ball into the net three times, it was disallowed each time after VAR examination.
The most suicide goals in this season are seven. Georgia's Georges Mikoutadze was the top scorer with three goals. Five have two goals each; Germany's Jamal Musiala and Niklas Fulkreuz, Netherlands' Cody Gakpo, Romania's Rajvan Marin and Slovakia's Ivan Schranje.
There are still 15 matches left including the final. The fans hope that the big stars will shine in the rest of the matches.
