3 more stars excluded from England's Euro team
England has already announced the initial squad for the European Championship which will start from June 15. Experienced star Marcus Rashford did not have a place in that team. This time, coach Gareth Southgate has cut three more stars before finalizing the team. Although they have been in the Tri-Lions camp for the Euros so far, Harry Maguire, James Maddison and Curtis Jones are not flying to the Euros in Germany.
The England Football Association (FA) (Thursday) confirmed the exclusion of the two star midfielders from the squad. Later, Harry Maguire also announced his withdrawal from the Euro squad. Although playing for Liverpool, Jones has not yet made his debut in the England national team. On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur's midfield stalwart Maddison has played seven international matches so far.
There is still one day left (until Friday) to finalize the teams for the Euros. With Maddison and Jones out, England have reduced their squad from 33 to 30. In other words, five more people will be eliminated from that group. The reason for Jones-Madison's early exclusion is not known. Maybe they will come to a final decision about the rest of Southgate after watching the warm-up matches before the Euros!
Earlier two-time runners-up Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson were left out of the starting squad. Unexpectedly, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Reece James, who played for Chelsea, did not receive a call-up.
The Three Lions will play their last warm-up match against Iceland tomorrow before the Euros. For which 27 footballers have been seen in England's practice. Lewis Dunk, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are recovering from injury. They worked separately on injury rehabilitation. Euro Championship 2024 will start in Germany on June 15 Bangladesh time. Last year's runners-up England will begin their campaign on June 17 against Serbia.
